Wardrobe Basics
Session One
We were inducted on the sewing machines and industrial irons. As I'm used to my own personal sewing machine, this was frustrating at times, but I soon adapted. I really enjoyed using the overlockers as it gave my sewing sample the neatest finish I'd ever seen.
Session Two
In this session we discussed the different roles within the costume industry and the different jobs behind the scenes of a production. It was really interesting to learn how varied the jobs can be, and how a role you might interpret as small has its own crew of workers. We were given paper and had to make mini basic blocks. As this was the project that I just did, I knew exactly what to do so helped people in class who didn't do costume who were confused- much like I was at the start of my basic block module. We were given a small pack of sample fabrics to demonstrate the different weaves of fabric and how it effects the texture and properties of the fabric.
Session Three
This session was back to practical. We were making mini circle skirts for the mini mannequins. From my self-taught sewing over lockdown, I had taught myself how to make many circle skirts so this was an easy lesson for me and I enjoyed giving tips to others in the class.
